I’m not going to lie to you fine people — I’ve never been fired before. I mean, I’ve been asked casually to never come back to several establishments that I worked at, but I’ve never been told “you’re fired.” The whole thing is just kind of hard for me to get my head around — I mean, you must have to really piss someone off to get the boot. But hey, we’re all human, and getting fired is kind of like a rite of passage I guess. Just ask these A-listers.
1. Ryan Gosling
The heartthrob was told to never come back to the set of The Lovely Bones when he showed up 60 pounds overweight!
2. Christian Bale
Bale was once hired, fired and then hired again when Leonardo DiCaprio backed out of a role at the last second. That movie? American Psycho.
3. Megan Fox
Megan Fox got the boot from the Transformers series after she compared the director to Hitler.
4. Jean-Claude Van Damme
JCVD was chosen to play the title character in Predator, but was dropped last second when he refused to be a character that he deemed as nothing more than a special effect.
5. Anne Hathaway
Anne was cast as the main female character in Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up. However, she got into an argument with the director about the inclusion of a vagina in the film and was ultimately replaced by Katherine Heigl.
6. Eric Stoltz
Believe it or not, Stoltz was originally cast as the main character in Back To The Future. He even shot several scenes! But apparently he just couldn’t nail the comedic lines and so he was replaced.
7. Sylvester Stallone
This one is kind of hard to imagine, but Sly was actually supposed to star in Beverly Hills Cop. Thanks to creative differences he was swapped at the last minute for Eddie Murphy.
8. Samantha Morton
The British actress was initially cast as the voice in Spike Jonze’s Her. She was extremely easy to work with, but at the end of the day, the director just didn’t think she had the right sound.
9. Stuart Townsend
It’s kind of hard to imagine the Lord Of The Rings trilogy without Viggo Mortensen, but did you know that his character was initially meant to be played by Stuart Townsend?
10. Annette Bening
Remember how awesome Michelle Pfeiffer was as Catwoman in 1992’s Batman Returns? Well that was almost Bening’s role until she got pregnant and had to be replaced.
11. Frank Sinatra
Believe it or not, Sinatra was meant to play the lead in the now iconic cop film Dirty Harry. However, after he broke his hand, the filmmakers had to swap him out for Clint Eastwood. Not a bad fill in…
12. Tom Selleck
The mustached Selleck was originally supposed to play the lead in Indiana Jones but was replaced by Harrison Ford when issues arose with his Magnum P.I. contract.
